Former Nigerian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Ali Pantami, has called on the federal government to honor 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullah Aminu with a $100,000 cash prize, a flat, and the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) for her remarkable achievement at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London, United Kingdom.
Nafisa, a student from Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC) in Yobe State, emerged as the world’s best in English language skills, outshining over 20,000 participants from 69 countries.
Nafisa’s victory in the highly competitive TeenEagle Global Finals, which rigorously tests English proficiency, critical thinking, and communication skills, has been hailed as a landmark moment for Nigeria.
Her exceptional performance against competitors from native English-speaking nations underscores her brilliance and the strength of Nigeria’s educational system, particularly in Yobe State, where Governor Mai Mala Buni’s reforms have bolstered access to quality education.
Speaking on the significance of Nafisa’s achievement, Prof Pantami emphasized its national importance.
“This is a moment of pride for Nigeria. Nafisa’s success showcases the potential of our youth when given the right opportunities. I urge the government to reward her with $100,000, a flat, and the OON to inspire other young Nigerians to strive for excellence,” Pantami stated.
He highlighted that such recognition would not only celebrate Nafisa’s dedication but also motivate others to compete globally.
The head of the Aminu family, Hassan Salifu, expressed gratitude to NTIC Yobe and the Yobe State government for their support, crediting Nafisa’s success to her discipline and the enabling environment provided by her school and state.
“Nafisa has made us proud, not just as a family but as a nation. Her victory over 69 countries proves Nigerian students can lead the world,” Salifu said in a statement.
