Tinubu Names MKO Abiola’s Daughter, as DG of Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Ms. Rinsola Abiola, daughter of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, as the new Director-General of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC).

The announcement, made by Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga on Monday, shows Tinubu’s commitment to bolstering leadership development and civic education in Nigeria.

Rinsola Abiola, a seasoned expert in strategic communication and government relations, previously served as Senior Special Assistant to the President.

Her appointment to lead the Abuja-based CLTC, which focuses on fostering patriotism, leadership skills, and civic responsibility, carries symbolic weight given her father’s legacy as the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993, presidential election and a towering figure in Nigeria’s pro-democracy movement.

In the same announcement, President Tinubu appointed Nasir Bala Aminu Ja’oji as Senior Special Assistant on Citizenship and Leadership.

Ja’oji, a former Special Adviser on Mobilisation to the Kano State Governor and a member of the Governing Council of Coordinated Arewa Youth Groups, is recognized for his advocacy for youth and women’s empowerment.

The duo is expected to work closely to advance the CLTC’s mandate of promoting national unity and leadership excellence.

The appointments have sparked mixed reactions. While some commend Tinubu for selecting a qualified candidate with a strong pedigree, others have raised concerns about nepotism, alleging that key postings often favor political allies or their relatives.

The Presidency, however, maintains that the decision was guided by Abiola’s competence and proven track record.

As Rinsola Abiola takes the helm, stakeholders anticipate a revitalized CLTC, with a focus on expanding youth-oriented programs and fostering civic engagement across Nigeria.
