Tinubu Launches Renewed Hope Ward Programme to Drive Grassroots Development

President Bola Tinubu has unveiled the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, a grassroots initiative approved by the National Economic Council (NEC) to channel macroeconomic gains into Nigeria’s 8,809 wards.

The programme, announced during an NEC meeting chaired by Tinubu on Thursday at the State House in Abuja, aims to stimulate local economies, reduce poverty, create jobs, and enhance food security.

A key feature of the initiative is the identification and support of at least 1,000 economically active individuals per ward to boost local manufacturing and business activities.

Led by the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, the programme seeks to translate federal-level economic progress into tangible benefits at the community level.

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, speaking to journalists after the meeting, emphasized the strategic shift, noting, “The President’s programme ensures additional revenue reaches the grassroots, creating a bigger impact. A committee involving the Surveyor-General and subnational governments will be formed to fast-track implementation."

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, described the initiative as a historic step in the government’s reform agenda.

“With a stabilized macroeconomy, we’re now focusing on development at the lowest levels to generate employment, reduce poverty, and enhance social protection,” he said, citing Chapter Two of Nigeria’s Constitution, which mandates fostering prosperity and self-sustaining economies.

Bagudu highlighted that supporting economically active individuals in each ward will drive local production and commercial growth, aligning with the programme’s goal of inclusive development.
