Super Falcons’ Rasheedat Ajibade Calls Out FG Over Unfulfilled $100,000, Housing Promises After WAFCON Triumph.
Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has revealed that the Federal Government is yet to fulfill its pledges to the team following their victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
In an exclusive interview with broadcaster Chude Jideonwo on August 13, 2025, Ajibade disclosed that neither the promised $100,000 cash reward nor the three-bedroom apartments pledged to each player have been delivered.
“We have not received our money, but hopefully it will be paid. They have not paid all the promises. We have not received anything,” Ajibade stated, expressing optimism that the government would honor its commitments.
She led the Super Falcons to a historic 10th WAFCON title, earning the Player of the Tournament award for her outstanding performance.
Following the victory, President Bola Tinubu conferred the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national honor on the players and technical crew, praising their “indomitable spirit of resilience, determination, and courage.”
He also announced the cash reward and housing gifts to celebrate the team’s success in their “Mission X” campaign, aimed at securing a record-extending continental crown.
The Super Falcons clinched the title in dramatic fashion, overcoming a 2-0 halftime deficit in the final.
Esther Okoronkwo scored a crucial penalty and assisted Folashade Ijamilusi’s equalizer, before Jennifer Echegini netted a late winner to seal Nigeria’s triumph.
