The Sokoto State Police Command, on Thursday, August 7, 2025, disbursed ₦14.1 million to the families of police officers who either lost their lives or sustained injuries while serving in the line of duty.
The funds, distributed under the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Family Welfare Scheme, Group Life Assurance, and Group Personal Accident Scheme, aim to provide financial relief to the affected families.
The cheque presentation ceremony, held at the Sokoto State Police Command Headquarters, was overseen by the Commissioner of Police, CP Musa Bello, on behalf of IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
CP Bello, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, expressed deep condolences to the beneficiaries and commended the IGP for his commitment to supporting the welfare of police personnel and their families.
“This gesture reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to ensuring that the sacrifices of our officers are never forgotten,” he stated.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Nigeria Police Force to support families of fallen and injured officers, with over ₦20.84 billion disbursed to 7,171 families nationwide between 2020 and 2025.
CP Bello urged the recipients to utilize the funds wisely, encouraging investments in ventures that would secure their families’ futures. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, noting its significance in alleviating financial burdens during their time of grief.
The Sokoto State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to officer welfare, emphasizing that such initiatives honor the sacrifices of those who serve to protect the nation.
