President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a sweeping restructuring of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), appointing veteran media executive Rotimi Richard Pedro as the new Director-General to lead a revitalized management team.
The shake-up, confirmed by a senior NTA official on Thursday, August 14, 2025, aims to modernize the state broadcaster and enhance its competitiveness in a rapidly evolving media landscape.
Joining Pedro in the new leadership are Karimah Bello, appointed as Executive Director of Marketing, Stella Din as Executive Director of News, and Sophia Essahmed as Managing Director of NTA Enterprises Limited.
The appointments signal the Federal Government’s intent to reposition the NTA as a dynamic player in global broadcasting.
Pedro, a Lagos native, brings nearly three decades of experience in broadcasting, sports rights, and marketing communications across Africa, the UK, and the Middle East.
A trained entertainment and intellectual property lawyer with an MSc in Investment Management & Finance from City University Business School, London, Pedro founded Optima Sports Management International (OSMI) in 1995.
OSMI became one of Africa’s leading sports content providers, distributing major events like the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FIFA World Cup, and CAF competitions to over 40 countries.
His career also includes leadership roles at Bloomberg Television Africa, Rapid Blue Format, and consultancy for FIFA, UEFA, Fremantle Media, and the African Union of Broadcasters (AUB), where he secured exclusive pan-African free-to-air media rights for CAF competitions.
“I am deeply honoured by this appointment and the confidence reposed in me by President Tinubu,” Pedro said in a statement.
“NTA is an iconic brand, and I am committed to leading it into a new era of relevance, innovation, and global competitiveness.”
Industry analysts, including Tunde Akinyemi, praised Pedro’s track record, noting his expertise in building commercially viable platforms and boosting sponsorship revenues as critical for NTA’s revival.
The overhaul comes amid calls for the NTA to adapt to modern broadcasting standards and compete with private media giants.
The Presidency emphasized that the new leadership is tasked with scaling up programming, increasing revenue, and strengthening the broadcaster’s global presence.
This move marks one of the most significant leadership changes at NTA in recent years, raising expectations for transformative reforms.
