Over 1.9 Million Nigerians Scramble for 30,000 Immigration, CDCFIB Jobs

The Central Database of Civil Service Federal Integrated Board (CDCFIB) has revealed a staggering 1,910,539 applications for its ongoing recruitment exercise, with the Nigeria Immigration Service attracting the highest number of applicants.

The fierce competition for just 30,000 available positions translates to a mere 1.57% chance of success for each applicant, underscoring Nigeria’s dire unemployment crisis.

According to the CDCFIB’s latest update, Kogi State led with 116,124 applications, followed closely by Kaduna (114,500), Benue (110,525), Kano (89,355), and Niger (79,504).

In contrast, Bayelsa recorded the lowest number of applicants at 11,669, trailed by Lagos (14,215), Rivers (22,207), Ebonyi (23,601), and Delta (27,956).

The overwhelming response highlights the intense demand for stable government jobs amid economic challenges, with the Immigration Service emerging as the most sought-after agency due to its perceived job security and benefits.

The recruitment, which spans various federal agencies, has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many applicants expressing both hope and frustration. An X post by @JobSeekerNG

The CDCFIB has assured applicants of a transparent selection process, with shortlisting expected to prioritize merit and regional balance.

However, the sheer volume of applications has raised concerns about the capacity to manage the exercise efficiently.

“We are committed to ensuring fairness, but the numbers are overwhelming,” a CDCFIB official, speaking anonymously, told reporters.

As the nation awaits the next phase of the recruitment, the figures serve as a stark reminder of Nigeria’s unemployment challenges, with millions vying for limited opportunities in an economy grappling with high inflation and dwindling job prospects.
