The Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) has filed a lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), demanding ₦3.5 billion in damages for an alleged unauthorized invasion of its hospitality facility, the Green Legacy Resort, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The legal action stems from an incident on August 10, 2025, where EFCC operatives reportedly stormed the hotel, causing distress to guests and damaging the library’s reputation.
According to a statement from the OOPL’s management, the EFCC operatives, acting on a tip-off about suspected internet fraud, raided the resort without a warrant or prior notice, disrupting operations and harassing patrons.
The library claims the invasion was unlawful, lacked due process, and violated its rights, leading to significant financial losses and reputational harm.
The ₦3.5 billion claim covers damages for business disruption, defamation, and emotional distress caused to staff and guests.
The lawsuit, filed at the Federal High Court in Abeokuta, accuses the EFCC of abusing its powers and seeks an injunction to prevent further violations.
OOPL’s legal team argues that the anti-graft agency’s actions contravened constitutional provisions on privacy and property rights.
They also demand a public apology from the EFCC to restore the resort’s image.
The EFCC is yet to respond publicly to the allegations or the lawsuit.
However, sources within the agency suggest the raid was part of routine operations targeting suspected cybercriminals, and the EFCC may argue it acted within its mandate to combat financial crimes.
This legal battle has sparked debates about the balance between law enforcement actions and the protection of private institutions, with many watching closely for the court’s ruling.
The OOPL, established by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, is a prominent cultural and educational institution, making this case a high-profile challenge to the EFCC’s operational conduct.
