Comfort Emmanson, the passenger who was accused of assaulting airline officials on an Ibom Air flight, has issued a statement following her release from prison.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Emmanson confirmed
she had regained freedom, adding that she was still in pains in the wake of the
incident.
She promised to tell her side of the story after some rest
and medical treatment.
“Thank you so much for all the Prayers, Love, and support.
I’ve been released from the Prison, but I’m still in pains due to how I was
treated,” she said.
“I just need some rest and medical treatment before I give
out my own version of the event.
“Thank you so much my Lovely Friends and Supporters. I
really appreciate y’all from the bottom of my heart. God bless y’all.”
Emmanson was released from
the Kirikiri prison after the magistrate court struck out the five-count charge
filed against her by the police.
The police withdrew the charges bordering on alleged assault
and unruly behaviour.
BACKGROUND
On Monday, the police had charged Emmanson, which led to her remand at the prison.
She had clashed with Ibom Air officials on an Uyo to Lagos
flight on Sunday.
During the incident, she was forcefully removed from the
aircraft with her clothes torn, leaving her partially nude.
The incident elicited varied reactions, with many Nigerians
condemning the treatment meted to her by airport officials.
On August 13, Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and
aerospace development, announced
that Ibom Air had withdrawn the complaint against Emmanson and that
the lifetime flight ban earlier imposed on her had been lifted.
