Nigeria’s Oil Output Hits 1.8M Barrels Daily, Eyes 3Million Target

Gbenga Komolafe, CEO of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, revealed at an energy conference that Nigeria’s oil production reached 1.8 million barrels per day in July, averaging 1.78 million barrels daily.

The surge, driven by improved security measures, aligns with efforts to boost output by an additional 1 million barrels per day, targeting a total of 3 million barrels daily.

Komolafe highlighted that the production boost is a key part of the NUPRC’s strategic plan to ramp up Nigeria’s oil output by an additional 1 million bpd, aiming to achieve a total of 3 million bpd by mid-2026.

He credited the success to improved surveillance, deployment of advanced technology to monitor pipelines, and stronger collaboration with security agencies, including the Nigerian Navy and private security firms, including the Nigerian Navy and private security firms.

These efforts have curtailed illegal bunkering and sabotage, enabling oil companies to operate more efficiently.

The NUPRC boss also emphasized the commission’s commitment to fostering transparency and accountability in the upstream sector.

He noted ongoing partnerships with international oil companies (IOCs), local operators, and community stakeholders to ensure sustainable production growth.
