Nigerian-Born Ipswich Student Earns UK’s Top A-Level Law Grade

Abiola Abidoye, an 18-year-old student at One Sixth Form College in Ipswich, is celebrating after achieving the highest A-Level grade in law across the United Kingdom.

Despite securing A* grades in maths, further maths, law, and physics, Abidoye described law as not his strongest subject, making his score of 224 out of 240 across three papers—an achievement that earned him national recognition—even more remarkable.

“I’m really pleased,” Abidoye said. “Maths and physics are my strong suits, but I took law because it’s my passion. I love different types of law, like human rights, even though we didn’t study them. It was a fun subject, and I wasn’t expecting to do this well.”

Abidoye admitted he was shocked to learn he topped the country in law.

“I saw that result first and was already nervous waiting for the others. I put in immense work, staying up to ungodly hours studying. I pressured myself a lot, and it was tough. I’m not sure I’d do it again, but I’m thrilled.”

He expressed gratitude to his teachers at One Sixth Form College for their unwavering support.

Looking ahead, Abidoye plans to study mathematics and aims for a career in banking or finance.
