The Nigerian Army has confirmed a minor explosion followed by a fire outbreak at Ilese Barracks in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, on Thursday morning, August 14, 2025.
The incident, which occurred within a storage building of the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter Improvised Explosive Device Squadron, has been brought under control.
Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, stated that troops from the 12 Field Engineer Regiment, alongside the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service, swiftly contained the fire.
No lives were lost, and no injuries were reported, with damage limited to the affected building and some stored materials. A detailed assessment is underway to evaluate material losses.
The Army has launched an investigation with relevant agencies to determine the cause of the explosion and prevent future incidents.
Lieutenant Colonel Anele reassured residents of Ilese and surrounding communities to remain calm and continue their normal activities, emphasizing the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the safety of its personnel and neighboring communities.
