In a groundbreaking move to bolster foreign investment and global partnerships, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has appointed Mr. Li Zhensheng, a Chinese national, as the state’s Economic Adviser.
The announcement was made on Thursday, August 14, 2025, during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bauchi State Government and the China Global Promotion Cooperation Research Centre at the Government House in Bauchi.
Governor Mohammed emphasized that the appointment and the MoU aim to position Bauchi as a hub for international collaboration, targeting investments in agriculture, healthcare, education, manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, and trade.
“This partnership is about transforming lives and opening Bauchi to the world,” Mohammed said, noting that the agreement aligns with the diplomatic ties between Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu and China’s President Xi Jinping.
A Bauchi State Representative Office will be established in China to streamline project implementation.
Li Zhensheng, also Chairman of the China Global Promotion Cooperation Research Centre, expressed his commitment to mobilizing resources for Bauchi’s economic growth.
“We are dedicated to supporting Bauchi in achieving sustainable development, modern infrastructure, and improved livelihoods,” he stated.
The appointment marks the first time a Nigerian state has appointed a Chinese national to such a role, signaling Bauchi’s bold push for global economic integration.
The move has sparked mixed reactions, with some praising Mohammed’s innovative approach to attracting investment, while others call for transparency in the partnership’s execution.
The governor assured stakeholders that the collaboration would enhance job creation, skills development, and Bauchi’s global visibility, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to a business-friendly environment.
