A delegation from the North East Development Commission (NEDC) conducted a pre-shipment inspection of electric buses at Anhui Ankai Automobile Co. Ltd, a top bus manufacturing facility in Hefei City, Anhui Province, China, as part of Nigeria’s push for sustainable transportation.
The visit, announced via a statement on the X handle of presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval for procuring electric vehicles to promote clean energy and enhance mobility in Nigeria’s North East.
The delegation, led by Minister of State for Steel Development Uba Maigari Ahmadu, Minister of State for Regional Development Mohammed G. Alkali, and Chairman of the House Committee on NEDC Usman Zannah, inspected the e-buses and their accessories ahead of their shipment to Nigeria.
Other delegation members included NEDC’s Executive Director of Operations Abdulsalam Yahaya Ahmed, Chief Mutiu Lawal, Benjamin Westley, Commission Secretary Engr. Abubakar Ali, Acting General Manager of Rapid Response Ali Umar, and Head of Audit.
The team praised Anhui Ankai for meeting international standards in manufacturing and expressed satisfaction with the buses’ quality and technology.
This procurement is a key milestone in NEDC’s commitment to eco-friendly transportation, aiming to improve connectivity, reduce emissions, and drive economic growth in the North East.
