Naira Marley Denies Bullying, K!lling Mohbad, Clears Air on De@th Rumors

Nigerian artist Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has refuted allegations linking him to the death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, who passed away in September 2023.

In a video posted on the Marlian Music YouTube channel on Tuesday night, Marley addressed fans, denying claims of bullying or involvement in Mohbad’s death, which sparked nationwide protests.

“I didn’t bully him, and I didn’t kill him,” Marley stated, thanking supporters who stood by him.

He recounted his challenges since returning to Nigeria in 2018, including his 2019 EFCC arrest and the pressures of fame that made living in Nigeria difficult despite having family in the UK.

Marley clarified he was in Amsterdam with his children when Mohbad died, dismissing rumors with timestamped video evidence.

Addressing Mohbad’s controversies, including an NDLEA issue, an attempted suicide, and disputes with his former manager and distributor, Marley noted that Mohbad had expressed a desire to apologize before his death.

“If I knew he was going to die, I would have let him come,” he said, adding that the situation was overwhelming at the time.

Marley recalled learning of Mohbad’s death, initially dismissing it as a publicity stunt.

“I saw on Instagram that Instablog said Mohbad died of an ear infection. Then Twitter exploded, saying, ‘Naira Marley, you’ve killed him,’” he recounted.

The statement follows the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions clearing Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and Primeboy of any involvement in Mohbad’s death earlier this year.
