NAF airstrikes Annihilates Over 100 Terrorists in Zamfara Forest Operation

In a decisive operation in the early hours of Sunday, August 10, 2025, the Nigerian military neutralized over 100 terrorists in Makakkari Forest, Bukuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, through coordinated airstrikes and ground assaults.

The operation, part of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), reduced bandit strongholds to ruins and destroyed numerous motorcycles used by the criminals.

Security expert Zagazola Makama reported that OPFY intelligence operatives had been monitoring suspicious movements across the Sunke, Kirsa, and Barukushe axis—known bandit havens—for weeks.

Sources revealed that over 400 armed fighters, led by notorious kingpins, were gathering in Makakkari Forest to launch an attack on Nasarawan Burkullu, a farming community, in retaliation for a recent defeat by security forces and hybrid units.

“They thought they could regroup and strike again, but they walked into a trap,” a source told Makama.

The operation commenced with Nigerian Air Force platforms delivering precision airstrikes on bandit clusters pinpointed by reconnaissance drones.

Smoke billowed from the forest as dozens of terrorists and their motorcycles were obliterated.

“Several kingpins and their foot soldiers were taken out before they could fire a shot,” the source said.

Surviving bandits attempting to flee were intercepted by ground assault teams in a secondary location.

In nearby Adafka village, residents protested the operation, lying on the tires of a security pickup Hilux vehicle loaded with belongings, holding green leaves as a sign of dissent, and briefly blocking security forces from leaving.

The military, however, remains committed to restoring peace in the region, with ongoing operations to prevent further terrorist activities.
