Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, has advocated for mandatory use of National Identification Number (NIN) and valid identification—such as an international passport, voter’s card, or driver’s license—to open and operate social media accounts.
In a statement posted on his X handle on Monday, August 25, 2025, Olayinka emphasized that these measures would enhance online accountability and combat misinformation.
“NIN, Valid Identity Card (International Passport, Voter's Card, Driver's Licence). These two should be made compulsory to open and operate social media accounts,” he stated.
