Lagos Police Hunt Businessman After Deadly Land Grab Clash K!lls Three in Onirin Market

The Lagos State Police Command has declared Abiodun Ariori, CEO of Prosperous Ariori Golden Venture Limited, a wanted suspect following a violent confrontation in the Owode Onirin Motor Spare Parts Market that claimed three lives and left a police inspector in critical condition, according to a statement from spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

The unrest erupted in the bustling market district along Ikorodu Road, where local traders clashed with suspected land grabbers amid a long-standing dispute over the site's ownership.

Eyewitnesses reported that armed men, allegedly acting on behalf of Ariori, stormed the area to enforce claims on disputed land, despite a court injunction mandating all parties to maintain the status quo until the next hearing on October 13, 2025.

The violence led to blocked highways, widespread panic, and the destruction of goods worth millions of naira, forcing traders to flee and halting commercial activities.

Commissioner of Police CP Olohundare Jimoh personally led a robust response team, including officers from the Operations Department, Police Mobile Force, Rapid Response Squad, tactical units, and State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), to quell the chaos.

"Normalcy was restored, roads were reopened to traffic, and people started going about their lawful businesses," Hundeyin stated, adding that police have maintained a strong presence to prevent further outbreaks.

Preliminary investigations have linked Ariori, described as dark-complexioned with a last known address in Egbeda, to the incident.

"All efforts to effect his arrest and bring him to justice have so far proved abortive. It is very clear that he has gone into hiding," Hundeyin said.

The public is urged to report sightings of Ariori to the nearest police station or contact the command's control room at 08063299264, 09053872208, 08127155150, or via email at lagosstatepolicecommandikeja@gmail.com.

In a related development, four policemen allegedly hired by Ariori from outside Lagos State have been detained at the command headquarters and are facing an orderly room trial for engaging in illegal duties.

"The outcome of the investigation into the case and the trial of the policemen will be made public," Hundeyin assured.

As investigations continue, authorities emphasize the need for peaceful resolution of land disputes to avoid further loss of life in this vital commercial hub.
