Lagos-Abuja $5B Super Highway Ready to Roll, Pending FEC Approval

The consortium behind the $5 billion Lagos-Abuja Super Highway Project has announced that all preparations for the 470-kilometer road are complete, awaiting Federal Executive Council (FEC) approval to begin construction.

The project, a public-private partnership, aims to slash travel time between Lagos and Abuja from 12 hours to approximately four hours, operating as a toll road.

Chief Kenny Martins of AEC Unity Network Limited, leading the consortium, expressed confidence that construction will commence by the end of 2025.

He praised Works Minister Dave Umahi and other officials for their support in completing the project’s initial phases, including design, studies, and approvals.

“What is left now is for FEC to give us the needed approval for the take-off and flag-off of the project,” Martins stated.

The superhighway will enhance connectivity and reduce commuting costs between the two cities.

The consortium also plans a spur to Ondo State and is in discussions with Niger State to link the Baro Port, boosting its viability, pending further approvals.
