The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a stern warning to Nigerians against engaging in multiple registrations during the upcoming Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise, with offenders risking complete removal from the voter register.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Plateau State, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Alhaji Mohammed Sadiq emphasized that voter registration is a fundamental right and civic duty, essential for participation in elections.
He urged all Nigerians aged 18 and above who have not yet registered to obtain their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs), while cautioning that multiple registrations would face severe consequences.
“Any attempt at multiple registration may lead to complete delisting from the voter register,” Sadiq warned.
The CVR exercise is set to begin on August 18, starting with an online registration platform accessible at http://www.crv.inecnigeria.org, allowing eligible voters to register from anywhere at any time.
The exercise includes new voter registrations, PVC collection or transfer, and replacement of lost or damaged PVCs.
Sadiq also assured that measures are in place to prevent non-Nigerians from participating in the process.
Sadiq called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, political parties, and other stakeholders to mobilize eligible residents and raise awareness about the importance of the CVR.
He also encouraged those who have previously registered to collect their PVCs promptly.
