Chief of Staff to the President and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has called on Northern political leaders to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid for 2027, emphasizing the President’s commitment to inclusive governance and national development.
The appeal was made during the 2025 Dialogue Session of the Northern Caucus of the National Forum of Former Legislators in Abuja on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, Gbajabiamila described Tinubu as a “unifying figure” whose leadership transcends regional divides.
“President Tinubu is not just a Southern leader; he is a national leader who has carried every region along,” Gbajabiamila stated, highlighting key infrastructural projects in Northern Nigeria, including road construction, rail expansion, and agricultural modernization, as evidence of the administration’s equitable approach.
“We are laying solid foundations today, and it is only right that the President is allowed to finish what he started,” he added.
The Dialogue Session, part of a series of consultations aimed at fostering political stability ahead of the 2027 general elections, saw Gbajabiamila urge the Northern leaders to prioritize national unity over sectional interests.
He praised the forum for its role in promoting inclusive governance and stressed that Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” has created a policy framework for meaningful reforms across the nation.
The Northern Caucus, led by Hon. Rufai Chanchangi, issued a communiqué at the session’s conclusion, formally endorsing Tinubu’s second-term bid and the concept of a Southern Presidency.
The document, co-signed by other forum members, underscored the need for continuity to ensure the completion of ongoing projects and reforms.
While some Northern leaders at the forum expressed support, citing economic stabilization measures like improved foreign reserves and a stabilizing exchange rate, others remain skeptical.
A report earlier this year indicated divisions among Northern elites over Tinubu’s potential second term, with some advocating for a reassessment of political alignments ahead of 2027.
