The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, led a high-powered delegation on Friday to the Kaduna residence of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari to offer condolences to his widow, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, following his passing on July 13, 2025.
The visit, marked by a heartfelt embrace between the two women, showed a deep bond of mutual respect and solidarity during a time of national mourning.
Accompanied by the wives of prominent government officials, including Hajia Nana Shettima (wife of the Vice President), Hajia Fatima Tajudeen Abass (wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives), Amb. Dr. Olufolake Abdulrasaq (wife of the Kwara State Governor), and Hajia Hafsat Uba Sanni (wife of the Kaduna State Governor), Senator Tinubu expressed profound sympathy for the loss of Buhari, who died in London at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness.
The delegation, which also included wives of National Assembly members, offered prayers for the repose of the former president’s soul and strength for his family.
In a statement released by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, Senator Tinubu described the late President Buhari as a statesman whose legacy of integrity and discipline left an indelible mark on Nigeria.
“This loss is deeply personal, not only for my family but for the nation. President Buhari’s unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s progress will continue to inspire us all,” she said, reflecting on her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s, long-standing friendship with the late leader.
The visit to Kaduna follows an earlier condolence visit by Senator Tinubu to the Buhari family in Daura, Katsina State, on July 19, 2025, where she was joined by a delegation of governors’ wives, ministers’ spouses, and service chiefs’ wives.
That visit included a stop at the late president’s gravesite and a courtesy call to the Emir of Daura, HRH Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar, who praised the Tinubu administration for its respect and honor toward Buhari’s legacy.
