The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has hailed the Federal Government’s newly established Oncology Centre in Enugu as a world-class facility, describing it as a testament to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.
The minister made these remarks on August 14, 2025, while leading a high-powered delegation to inspect the state-of-the-art facility, commissioned just weeks ago by the Ministers of Health and Finance.
The Enugu Oncology Centre, one of six planned nationwide under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, is equipped with one of the world’s most advanced cancer treatment machines, previously available only abroad or in Lagos.
“This facility brings cutting-edge healthcare closer to Nigerians, ensuring that life-saving treatment is accessible right here in Enugu,” Idris said.
He noted that three of the planned oncology centres are already operational, marking significant progress in delivering world-class healthcare across the country.
During the visit, the delegation interacted with patients, including a woman who shared her relief at accessing top-quality treatment locally, eliminating the need for long-distance travel.
“This is democracy delivering tangible dividends,” Idris emphasized. “Our visit allows us to hear directly from citizens, witness the impact of these projects, and ensure these facilities are maintained for the public’s benefit.”
The minister’s tour also included inspections of federal road projects in Enugu, showcasing the government’s broader infrastructure development efforts.
Idris reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to improving the quality of life for Nigerians through strategic investments in health and infrastructure.
The facility is expected to serve as a model for the remaining planned centres, reinforcing Nigeria’s strides toward a healthier, more equitable future.
