FG Approves Major Upgrade for UCH Ibadan Oncology Centre

The Federal Executive Council (FEC), chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has approved the upgrade of the Oncology Centre at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, marking a significant step in advancing Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure.

Announcing the decision after Thursday’s FEC meeting at the Presidential Villa, Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, described the approval as part of the Tinubu administration’s broader strategy to revolutionize cancer treatment and healthcare delivery across the country.

The upgraded UCH Oncology Centre will feature state-of-the-art equipment, including linear accelerators and advanced diagnostic systems for radiotherapy, ensuring cutting-edge cancer care.

Pate highlighted that this initiative aligns with recent efforts to establish world-class oncology facilities in Katsina, Enugu, and Jos, reducing the need for Nigerians to seek treatment abroad.

“Under President Tinubu’s leadership, we are making substantial investments to ensure cancer patients can access top-tier treatment within Nigeria,” Pate said, emphasizing the government’s commitment to transforming the health sector.
