Dangote Petroleum Refinery is set to bolster its fuel distribution network with the delivery of 60 additional Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks over the next six weeks, as part of its ambitious logistics program.
The announcement was made by Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief of Branding and Communication at Dangote Industries Limited, in a statement on Sunday.
The refinery, located in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, has already begun receiving trucks in phases, with the first consignment recently arriving at Apapa Port and formally received by Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries.
This initiative, set to commence on August 15, aims to transform Nigeria’s fuel distribution landscape by reducing logistics costs and enhancing supply efficiency.
The fleet, part of a ₦720 billion investment, will support the nationwide distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and diesel, with an estimated annual savings of ₦1.7 trillion for Nigerians.
The program is expected to benefit over 42 million Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) by lowering energy costs and improving profitability.
It will also create over 15,000 direct jobs, including roles for drivers and station managers, while revitalizing dormant filling stations.
The use of CNG-powered trucks is projected to curb cross-border fuel smuggling and promote environmental sustainability.
Tosin Coker, Commercial Coordinator of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), hailed the move as a “milestone achievement” in promoting gas-powered transport, signaling CNG’s role as a practical solution to high energy costs and supply chain challenges.
The refinery’s strategy includes collaboration with regulatory bodies to ensure seamless deployment, with plans to scale up to 4,000 CNG trucks to meet Nigeria’s daily consumption of 65 million liters of refined petroleum products.
