Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, by N30, from N850 to N820 per litre, effective August 12, 2025.
The company stated that this price cut reflects its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s economy and easing the burden of rising energy costs on consumers.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, reaffirmed the refinery’s dedication to ensuring a steady and uninterrupted supply of petroleum products.
He emphasized that the price reduction aligns with the refinery’s mission to contribute to national development.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) commended the price cut, describing it as a significant step toward addressing Nigeria’s fuel supply challenges, boosting employment, and restoring confidence in the country’s industrial capacity.
During a visit to the refinery and Dangote Fertiliser Limited, Funmi Sessi, Chairman of the NLC Lagos State chapter, praised the scale and strategic importance of Dangote Group’s investments.
“The Dangote Refinery and fertiliser plant are truly impressive. These projects bridge gaps in essential product availability, create jobs, and drive industrialization,” Sessi said.
The NLC noted that the Federal Government’s removal of the petrol subsidy had led to a sharp rise in PMS costs, impacting Nigerians significantly.
The union urged the government to prioritize supplying crude oil to Dangote Refinery in naira and to leverage the group’s fertiliser exports to international markets to enhance food security and reduce reliance on imported agricultural inputs.
Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, announced plans to deploy 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks to distribute refined petroleum products nationwide.
This initiative aims to ensure that the benefits of domestic refining and lower fuel prices reach Nigerian consumers effectively.
