ADC Slams PDP’s 2027 Zoning as Ploy to Lure Obi, Jonathan, Amaechi

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, calling it a strategic maneuver to attract high-profile figures like Peter Obi, Goodluck Jonathan, and Rotimi Amaechi.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on August 26, 2025, ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi criticized both the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for prioritizing political tactics over Nigeria’s urgent socio-economic issues.

Abdullahi questioned the timing of the PDP’s zoning announcement, made two years before the 2027 elections, describing it as insensitive.

“Why are we so preoccupied with zoning when Nigerians are facing serious challenges? It’s as if the political elite don’t care,” he said.

He suggested the PDP’s move, alongside the APC’s endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for re-election, reflects calculated gamesmanship.

“They’re either playing a predetermined game or baiting certain people,” he remarked.

The PDP’s zoning decision reserves its 2027 presidential ticket for the South while keeping the national chairmanship in the North, aligning with Nigeria’s informal power rotation.

However, Abdullahi dismissed this as political posturing, noting that the ADC remains focused on grassroots mobilization and party-building rather than early zoning decisions.

He emphasized that the ADC’s platform is open to all aspirants, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi, who he said have equal opportunities to vie for the party’s ticket.

“We’re not pressured by the PDP’s actions. Nigerians can see through it.

Their decision two years out shows there’s a game afoot, but we’re focused on strengthening our party,” Abdullahi stated.
