ADC Confirms Kachikwu Was Expelled from Party Before 2023 Presidential Election

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has clarified that its former presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, was expelled from the party prior to the 2023 general election.

According to ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi, Kachikwu’s name appeared on the ballot only because it was too late to update the electoral register with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the polls.

“Dumebi Kachikwu had been expelled from the ADC before the 2023 presidential election. His name was on the ballot because it was too late to effect a change. He remains suspended,” Abdullahi stated in an exclusive interview with Channels on Sunday.

Abdullahi explained that Kachikwu’s expulsion stemmed from internal party disputes, including allegations of anti-party activities and violations of the ADC’s constitution.

“The decision to expel him was taken after due process by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC),” he said, declining to provide further details on the specific infractions.

The ADC spokesman emphasized that Kachikwu’s suspension remains in effect, and the party has moved forward with its restructuring efforts ahead of future elections.

“The ADC is focused on strengthening its internal mechanisms and presenting credible candidates who align with our values and vision for Nigeria,” Abdullahi added.

When asked about the party’s plans for the 2027 elections, Abdullahi noted that the ADC is engaging with stakeholders and grassroots members to ensure a unified front.

He urged Nigerians to support the party’s commitment to transparent leadership and good governance.

Kachikwu, a media entrepreneur, has not publicly commented on his expulsion or suspension from the ADC as of the time of this report.
