Former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has publicly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid for the 2027 general election, pledging his unwavering commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 9, 2025, Ambode dismissed rumors linking him to a governorship ambition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), calling them “false publications” aimed at sowing discord.
“I stand firmly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC, the party under which I served as Lagos State governor,” Ambode declared.
He praised Tinubu’s leadership, citing achievements in economic reforms, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment as evidence of the president’s commitment to Nigeria’s progress.
“President Tinubu’s policies are yielding results, and his vision for a prosperous Nigeria deserves another term to consolidate these gains,” he added.
Ambode’s endorsement comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
He urged APC members and Nigerians to ignore distractions and focus on strengthening the party’s unity to ensure Tinubu’s victory.
The former governor also highlighted his personal ties to Tinubu, describing him as a mentor and a champion of democratic dividends.
The Epe Division Stakeholders Forum, a key APC support group in Lagos, echoed Ambode’s sentiments, endorsing both Tinubu’s re-election and Ambode’s potential return to the Lagos governorship.
The forum’s coordinator, Adewale Kazeem, praised Ambode’s transformative tenure as governor, particularly in infrastructure and public service delivery, and called for his comeback to “reinvigorate Lagos.”
Ambode’s declaration aligns with a wave of endorsements for Tinubu, including from APC governors, chieftains, and regional forums, signaling a strategic push to consolidate support within the party and beyond.
As political jostling intensifies, Ambode’s firm stance reinforces Tinubu’s influence in Lagos and strengthens his position as the APC’s frontrunner for 2027.
