President Bola Tinubu on Thursday revealed plans to build a new national secretariat for the All Progressives Congress in Abuja.
The announcement, made during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, underscores Tinubu’s vision to strengthen the party’s infrastructure and consolidate its presence in the nation’s capital.
The directive follows the appointment of Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda as the new APC National Chairman, a move aimed at fostering unity within the party.
Sources indicate that the decision to construct a new headquarters is part of a broader strategy to reposition the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The current APC national secretariat, located in Abuja, has been deemed inadequate to meet the party’s growing needs, prompting the call for a modern facility to reflect the party’s status as Nigeria’s ruling party.President Tinubu tasked the committee with identifying a strategic location within the FCT that aligns with the party’s prominence and accessibility.
The committee will also include representatives from the APC NWC and the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), ensuring a collaborative approach to the initiative.
However, the directive has also sparked discussions about the allocation of resources, with critics questioning the priority of a new headquarters amid economic challenges.
The APC has yet to release a timeline or budget for the project, but party insiders suggest that the committee will prioritize transparency and efficiency in its execution.
The formation of the committee comes at a time when the APC is navigating internal dynamics and preparing for future electoral contests.
