As the 2027 general election approaches, prominent lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has declared former President Goodluck Jonathan as the only viable Southern candidate capable of unseating incumbent President Bola Tinubu.
In a post shared on X on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Adeyanju dismissed other Southern presidential aspirants as mere “content creators,” lacking the political weight to challenge Tinubu’s hold on power.
In his post, Adeyanju stated, “Ahead of 2027, the only Southern candidate that can wrestle power from Tinubu is Goodluck Jonathan. The rest are just content creators.”
The statement has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with some users supporting Adeyanju’s view, citing Jonathan’s experience as president from 2010 to 2015 and his national appeal, while others criticized the assertion, arguing it undermines other potential candidates.
Adeyanju’s comments come amid growing speculation about the political landscape ahead of 2027, with several Southern politicians reportedly eyeing the presidency.
Jonathan, who has maintained a relatively low profile since leaving office, remains a significant figure in Nigerian politics, particularly for his role in fostering a peaceful transition of power in 2015.
Whether he will consider a return to the presidency remains unclear, as he has yet to publicly declare his intentions.
