Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has expressed confidence that the Northern region of Nigeria will celebrate him if he becomes president in 2027.
Speaking on Channels TV on Sunday, Obi highlighted the region's vast potential, citing its numerical voter strength and arable lands as Nigeria's greatest asset.
However, Obi noted that the region's potential has been largely untapped due to the pervasive issue of insecurity. He emphasized the need to address this challenge to unlock the region's potential and drive progress.
As a prominent member of the opposition coalition floated on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Obi's comments suggest he is positioning himself for a strong campaign in the north, a region with significant electoral influence.
“We have voted for incompetence, we’ve voted for tribe, (and) we’ve voted for religion; let’s vote for competence. I want them to trust me. The biggest asset of this country is in the north, the uncultivated lands in the north. The criminality we face in the north today, I will deal with it. If I am president, the North will celebrate me. I have an idea of the problem.” he said.
