Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago, and Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, launched the N500 billion “Produce for Lagos” initiative and Off-Take Guarantee Fund at the Lagos State House.
The multi-billion-naira initiative was launched at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, on Wednesday, July 23.
Other personalities at the event include Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Olajide Owolabi, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, Minister for Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, Minister of State for Finance, Doris Annette, Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, the organiser, members of the State Executive Council, members of Governor’s Advisory Council, GAC, All Progressives Congress, APC, Tony Elumelu led captains of industry, traditional rulers, religious, community leaders, market leaders and associations, civil society organisations, among others.
The landmark agricultural program aims to address food shortages, enhance production, and streamline distribution across Nigeria.
The initiative, a collaboration between the Lagos State government and private sector partners, seeks to reduce pre-harvest losses, curb food inflation, and ensure sustainable food systems through partnerships with states rich in arable land.
Commissioner for Agriculture Abisola Olusanya emphasized the program’s focus on linking markets to production, addressing long-standing gaps in logistics and distribution.
The launch marks a significant step toward achieving Lagos’ goal of meeting 40% of its food requirements by 2025, fostering regional cooperation and economic resilience.
