A high-powered delegation of All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders from Plateau State, led by Senator Simon Lalong, former Minister of Women Affairs Pauline Tallen, and State Party Chairman Rufus Bature, paid a solidarity visit to the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, July 31, 2025, to express their unwavering support for the newly appointed National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda.
The visit, which shows the unity and enthusiasm within the Plateau APC chapter, follows Yilwatda’s appointment as National Chairman on July 24, 2025, succeeding Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
The delegation commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for selecting Yilwatda, describing the appointment as a historic milestone for Plateau State, which had not produced a national chairman of a ruling party since the era of former Governor Solomon Lar under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 1999.
Senator Lalong, a former Governor of Plateau State and current Senator representing Plateau South, praised Yilwatda’s track record as a technocrat and politician, noting his tenure as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development and his role as the APC’s 2023 governorship candidate in Plateau State.
“Prof. Yilwatda’s emergence is a testament to Plateau’s loyalty to the APC and President Tinubu’s confidence in our capacity to lead,” Lalong said.
“We are here to assure him of our full support to strengthen the party and deliver victories in 2027.”
Pauline Tallen, a prominent APC stalwart and former deputy governor of Plateau State, highlighted Yilwatda’s commitment to inclusivity and grassroots mobilization.
“His leadership will galvanize the APC across Nigeria, and we in Plateau are ready to work with him to ensure the party’s Renewed Hope Agenda reaches every corner of our state,” she stated.
State Party Chairman Rufus Bature echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the delegation’s resolve to rally behind Yilwatda to consolidate the APC’s dominance in Plateau and beyond.
“This is a new dawn for our party. Prof. Yilwatda’s appointment has energized our members, and we are committed to building a stronger, more united APC,” Bature said.
In his response, Prof. Yilwatda expressed gratitude for the show of solidarity, pledging to lead with transparency and inclusivity.
“I am deeply honored by this visit and the confidence reposed in me by our leaders from Plateau State,” he said.
“Together, we will broaden the APC’s appeal, open our doors to new members, and position the party for resounding success in 2027.”
Yilwatda also urged the delegation to step down the party’s manifesto to the grassroots, aligning with President Tinubu’s economic initiatives, including the injection of funds into the Bank of Industry for food sufficiency and plans to deliver over 1.5 million housing units nationwide.
The visit follows a similar gesture by members of the Plateau State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Naanlong Gapyil Daniel, on July 29, 2025, and a grand welcome rally organized by party stalwart Hon. Marlin Daniel, signaling robust support for Yilwatda within his home state.
