A member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees, BoT, Bode George, has described the party as an Iroko tree.
George made the remark while disclosing that the policemen
who besieged the PDP’s National Secretariat in Abuja and prevented members from
meeting said the order came from above.
The BoT could not hold at the Secretariat because policemen
prevented members from sitting.
But the FCT Police Command had denied sealing off the
Secretariat.
However, George said despite the disruption, the PDP is not
dead, stressing that those with such claims are dreamers.
Responding to claims that the PDP is dead on Channels
Television’s Politics Today, George said: “No way; those are dreamers. I’m
telling you they are first-class dreamers.
“In political management, ownership structure,
camaraderie—what we have in the PDP, they don’t have.”
He noted further that the former ruling party is “the Iroko
political party of Nigeria, its roots remain deep and intact” despite recent
challenges.
According to George: “It was disgraceful, It’s like going
back to your home, and suddenly it’s surrounded by police. I thought, what in
the globe is happening?
“The police officers were not rough, they were civil, when I
asked what was happening if they had a court order? But they just said sir we
are on orders, so I went into the building, I went upstairs from there I left
for the meeting rescheduled at the Yar’Adua Centre.
“I was so furious about what is going on, who is the order
from above? That’s what we kept asking until we got to NEC meeting and I’m sure
that will never happen again because it has never happened.
“We then concluded that this was part of the crisis we have
been going through and this experience we are having are loads of lessons for
party members.”
