One of the guests, who gave his name simply as Adio, recounted the moment the situation escalated. “I had been in the hotel since Wednesday. That evening, I heard a strange noise from the next room. Someone alerted a security officer, and when no one responded to the knock, the door was opened with a spare key. That’s when we saw a woman lying motionless in a pool of blood.”
The shocking discovery led to an immediate alarm within the hotel, as staff began searching for the suspects. While two of the occupants had already fled, Daniel was found hiding within the hotel premises as he attempted to escape. He was subdued by staff and other guests before being handed over to the police.
A hotel worker, who requested anonymity, said the suspect was caught trying to flee through the gate. “When we noticed two had escaped, we knew the third might still be nearby. During the search, we saw him running and managed to catch him. He was beaten by some angry guests before the police arrived.”
According to the source, Daniel allegedly confessed during the scuffle that he and his accomplices had lured the woman to the hotel with the intent of killing her for ritual purposes.
Preliminary police investigations revealed the victim’s name as Endurance, a native of Akwa Ibom State.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the hotel manager reported the crime to the Ayobo Police Station on Friday.
“The hotel manager stated that at about 1 p.m. on Thursday, one Amos Daniel, whose address remains unknown, booked a room in the facility and checked in at 5 p.m. with two other individuals,” Hundeyin said.
“At approximately 8 p.m., while refuelling the hotel’s generator, the manager heard a strange noise from the room. Upon checking, he discovered the lifeless body of a female adult, with multiple injuries suspected to have been inflicted by a sharp object.”
The police spokesperson noted that Daniel and his companions attempted to flee but were pursued by the hotel manager, who successfully apprehended Daniel. A dagger, believed to have been used in the attack, reportedly fell from the suspect during the arrest.
Further investigations led detectives to recover several items from the suspect’s possession and premises, including: A UTC axe, a cutlass, a machete, multiple jack knives, a pair of scissors, a laptop, a local sponge, and military-style jungle boots.
The victim, according to Hundeyin, sustained stab wounds to the abdomen, head, and rib area. Her remains have since been deposited at the Yaba General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
