Police in Lagos State have arrested a man in the Ipaja area after a semi-automatic pistol was discovered on his wife during a routine stop-and-search operation.
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police spokesperson, told journalists that officers stopped the man’s wife and another woman for a search, which led to the recovery of the firearm.
The man was subsequently taken into custody.Further details regarding the investigation or charges were not disclosed, as the case remains under review by the authorities.
Hundeyin wrote on X;
‘‘See these police officers harassing two ladies, insisting on searching their bags…’That would have been the narrative.
"After a cursory and non-intrusive look at the contents of their bags, this semi-automatic pistol was found in their possession by police officers of Ipaja Division.
"One of the ladies led the police to the owner of the firearm - her husband. Case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.One less illegal firearm in circulation."
