Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, took a swipe at former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, calling him “Internally Displaced Again!” after the Social Democratic Party (SDP) announced his expulsion and a 30-year ban from the party.
The SDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) confirmed El-Rufai’s banishment on Monday, accusing him of falsely claiming membership without completing the mandatory registration process.
According to a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, El-Rufai misrepresented himself as an SDP member while allegedly promoting another political party in Kaduna State.
“Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has been parading himself as a member of the SDP, despite confirmation from the Kaduna State Executives that he never registered at the ward level, as required by our constitution and the Electoral Act,” Aiyenigba stated.
The SDP initially extended leniency to El-Rufai due to his stature as a former minister and governor but later uncovered his lack of formal membership.
The party revealed that El-Rufai’s actions led to public confusion, including congratulations from SDP leaders and a requested letter of support, which prompted further investigation. Citing violations of its constitution and the Electoral Act, the SDP imposed a 30-year ban, barring El-Rufai from associating with the party until 2055.
Onanuga reacting to this news on X, wrote a subtle social media jab, posted on Monday, showcasing El-Rufai’s ongoing political struggles following his rift with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
