The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed the arrest and interrogation of Muibi Folawiyo, Chairman of the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area. Folawiyo is facing allegations of extensive financial misconduct.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, July 2, ICPC spokesperson, Demola Bakare, stated that Folawiyo is under investigation for multiple offenses, including the alleged theft of public funds and diversion of government resources for personal gain.
Bakare also mentioned that Folawiyo is accused of circumventing official administrative procedures.
Folawiyo was arrested at the council secretariat on 42 Broad Street, Lagos, after ignoring repeated invitations from the ICPC. The ICPC operatives from the headquarters in Abuja carried out the arrest. Folawiyo has been granted administrative bail and is expected to report back for further investigation.
The ICPC has not disclosed further details about the specific amounts involved or other individuals who may be implicated. The investigation is still ongoing, and the commission will likely provide more information as it becomes available.
