Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has announced a cabinet reshuffle, relieving two commissioners of their appointments as part of a strategic move to revitalize governance and enhance service delivery in the state.
The announcement, made on Thursday, July 31, 2025, underscores Zulum’s commitment to optimizing the state’s administrative machinery amid ongoing efforts to rebuild Borno in the face of security and developmental challenges.
The two commissioners relieved of their duties were not named in the official statement, but the decision was described as a necessary step to inject fresh perspectives into the state’s executive council.
The reshuffle also included the redeployment of several other commissioners to new portfolios, though specific details of the changes were not immediately disclosed.
A statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Danjuma Ali, emphasized that the move aligns with Zulum’s vision to ensure efficient governance and deliver on campaign promises to the people of Borno State.
“His Excellency, Governor Zulum, is committed to ensuring that the government remains responsive to the needs of our people,” Ali said.
“This reshuffle is aimed at revitalizing governance, enhancing service delivery, and ensuring that Borno continues on the path of progress and reconstruction.”
The statement further noted that the governor expressed gratitude to the outgoing commissioners for their contributions to the state’s development.
Governor Zulum, a professor and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been lauded for his proactive leadership since assuming office in 2019.
His administration has prioritized infrastructure development, education reform, healthcare improvement, and economic empowerment, particularly in response to the devastating effects of the Boko Haram insurgency.
Previous cabinet reshuffles, such as the one in May 2021, saw minor redeployments to strengthen key sectors like health and environment, reflecting Zulum’s hands-on approach to governance.
The latest reshuffle comes at a critical time as Borno recovers from the devastating floods that ravaged Maiduguri and surrounding areas in 2024, affecting an estimated 700,701 residents and damaging 129,900 buildings.
Zulum’s administration has been actively involved in relief efforts, with the governor recently pledging support to rebuild structures, including the Borno State office of the National Population Commission, which was impacted by the floods.
The governor has also garnered praise for his people-oriented projects, including the rehabilitation of 300 health centers, construction of 64 new ones, and economic stimulus initiatives like the N4.2 billion disbursed to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) over the past three years.
These efforts have been critical in restoring economic stability and reducing youth restiveness in the state.
