Dino Melaye Officially Joins ADC

Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant shift in his political journey after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The announcement, made on Thursday, July 31, 2025, follows Melaye’s public criticism of the PDP’s leadership failures and its inability to deliver good governance to Nigerians.

Melaye, who recently lamented the PDP’s lack of direction, declared the ADC as a “credible alternative” for Nigerians seeking relief from hunger, insecurity, and unfulfilled promises by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at a coalition meeting in Abuja earlier this month, Melaye expressed confidence in the ADC’s potential to lead Nigeria toward progress, stating, “Nigerians are tired of managing an incompetent government. It’s time to defeat hunger and insecurity before they defeat us.”

The former senator, known for his outspoken nature and theatrical political style, highlighted the ADC’s growing momentum, particularly in Kogi State, where a planned unveiling of the party’s chapter was postponed due to the mourning period for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The turnout we saw, despite the suspension, is just the introduction,” Melaye noted, signaling strong grassroots support for the ADC.

Melaye’s move to the ADC aligns him with other prominent opposition figures, including former governors Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola, who he described as the “engine and think tank” of the APC before their defection to the ADC-led coalition. He vowed that this group would work to “bury” the APC in the 2027 general elections, leveraging their political experience and influence.

The ADC, led by Interim National Chairman David Mark, has gained traction in 2025 with the addition of high-profile figures like Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, who also joined the party to form a united front against the APC.
