The Dangote Oil Refinery, Africa’s largest, has achieved a significant milestone by exporting one million tonnes of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to various countries worldwide over a span of 50 days.
This landmark achievement was announced by Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, during the ongoing Global Commodity Insights Conference on West African Refined Fuel Markets, organized by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) in collaboration with S&P Global Insights.
Speaking at the conference on Tuesday, Dangote revealed, “Today, Nigeria has actually become a net exporter of refined products.
Before I came on the podium, I asked my people how many tonnes of PMS we have actually exported. From June beginning to date, we have exported about 1 million tonnes of PMS, within the last 50 days.”
The export milestone marks a transformative moment for Nigeria’s energy sector, positioning the country as a key player in the global refined fuel market.
The Dangote Refinery, located in Lagos, has been instrumental in reducing Nigeria’s reliance on imported fuel while boosting its capacity to supply high-quality petroleum products to international markets.Industry experts at the conference hailed the development as a game-changer for West Africa’s energy landscape.
The news has sparked optimism among stakeholders, with calls for continued investment in infrastructure and policies to sustain this momentum.
As global demand for refined fuels grows, the Dangote Refinery’s exports are expected to further strengthen Nigeria’s position in the international energy market.
