Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, announced that Boko Haram attacks, banditry, and communal conflicts in the northern region have significantly decreased over the past two years under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking at a two-day interactive session organized by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna, Ribadu attributed the progress to a unified security approach directed by the president.
Ribadu highlighted the stark contrast with the previous administration, noting that 1,192 people were killed and over 3,348 kidnapped in Kaduna State alone, while more than 5,000 lives were lost in Benue State during the same period.
“The successes recorded in the fight against insecurity are a result of President Tinubu’s directive to security agencies to work as a team,” he stated.
He reported that over 13,543 Boko Haram fighters have been neutralized, 11,000 weapons seized, and 124,408 fighters and their families have surrendered since Tinubu took office.
The session, attended by northern leaders including Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, aimed to assess the government’s response to socio-economic and security challenges in northern Nigeria.
Ribadu emphasized ongoing operations in areas like the Tumbuktu Triangle and Tumbu islands to eliminate remaining insurgents, underscoring that the administration remains committed to sustaining this momentum.
Despite recent Boko Haram attacks in Borno linked to a resurgence of jihadi activity in the Sahel, Ribadu maintained that Nigeria is more secure than before, positioning the country as resilient amid regional instability.
