Paul Ibe, media adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, disclosed that Atiku’s resignation letter from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), dated July 14, 2025, was meant to remain private but was leaked by political opponents to derail his ambitions.
In a Wednesday night interview on Arise News, Ibe accused anti-Atiku factions within the PDP, in collaboration with members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), of orchestrating the leak. He highlighted that the timing, immediately following former President Muhammadu Buhari’s funeral, was a calculated move to spark controversy and distract the public.
“We’re here because people who never wished His Excellency Atiku Abubakar well leaked a communication of his. Yes, it was leaked,” Ibe said.
His comments followed criticisms from the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who accused Atiku of intentionally releasing the letter to distract the public during a national period of mourning.
Buhari was buried in Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday, July 15, with President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and other dignitaries in attendance.
Keyamo, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), acknowledged Atiku’s right to change political parties but said the timing was in poor taste.
