APC National Chairman Yilwatda, Visits Senator Yari in Abuja to Strengthen Party Unity

Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the newly appointed National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led a high-powered delegation to the Maitama District office of Senator Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar, former Governor of Zamfara State, in a strategic move to foster party unity and consolidate support ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The visit, described by party insiders as a significant step toward strengthening the APC’s political base in the North-West, underscores Yilwatda’s commitment to engaging key stakeholders following his recent election as chairman.

Yilwatda, who assumed the APC chairmanship on July 24, 2025, after the resignation of former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, was accompanied by senior party officials during the courtesy call.

Although specific details of the closed-door meeting were not disclosed, sources close to the APC leadership indicate that discussions focused on rallying support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, addressing regional security challenges in Zamfara, and strategizing for upcoming electoral cycles.

Senator Yari, a prominent figure in the North-West and a key APC stalwart, is seen as instrumental in mobilizing grassroots support in the region.

Yilwatda, a 56-year-old technocrat and former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, praised Senator Yari for his contributions to the APC and his leadership in Zamfara.

“This visit is part of our efforts to unite the party and ensure we remain a formidable force. Senator Yari’s experience and influence are vital to our collective success,” Yilwatda reportedly stated.

The meeting comes at a critical time for the APC, as it seeks to counter growing opposition from parties like the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which President Tinubu recently described as a “coalition of confusion.”

Senator Yari, who served as Zamfara’s governor from 2007 to 2015 and is currently a senator representing Zamfara West, expressed optimism about the APC’s future under Yilwatda’s leadership.

He pledged his continued support for the party’s agenda, emphasizing the need for unity to address Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.

The visit also follows reports of internal party dynamics, with Yilwatda’s appointment seen as a consensus-driven decision to stabilize the APC after Ganduje’s exit.
