APC Extends Tenure of Ward, Local Government, and State Executive Committees to December 31

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended the tenure of its Ward, Local Government, and State Executive Committees across Nigeria until December 31, 2025, according to party sources.

This decision was made to ensure stability and continuity in the party’s grassroots structure as it prepares for upcoming electoral challenges.

The extension was reportedly approved during a recent meeting of the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, following consultations with key stakeholders, including party leaders and governors.

The move comes amid efforts to strengthen the party’s organizational framework and address internal issues following the resignation of former National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

A party insider, speaking anonymously, told reporters that the extension aims to allow sufficient time for the APC to reorganize its leadership at various levels and conduct congresses to elect new executives.

“This is a strategic decision to maintain cohesion and focus on consolidating the party’s position ahead of future elections,” the source said.

The decision also aligns with the APC’s ongoing efforts to reposition itself under its new National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who was recently appointed to replace Ganduje.

Yilwatda’s leadership is expected to prioritize grassroots mobilization, and the tenure extension provides a window to implement reforms without the immediate pressure of leadership transitions at the ward, local government, and state levels.

While the APC’s official website and statements have not yet detailed this extension, similar actions have been taken in specific states, such as Benue, where the NWC extended the tenure of the state’s Caretaker Committee by six months earlier this year.

This precedent suggests the party is employing a broader strategy to stabilize its structures nationwide.

For now, the extended tenure is set to keep the current Ward, Local Government, and State Executive Committees in place until December 31, 2025, as the party navigates its next phase.
