Bayo Onanuga, the spokesperson to President Bola Tinubu, has warned Nigerians against paying attention to the newly formed coalition against the current administration.
Onanuga, who has one or another to say about every member of
the coalition, especially those joining from the All Progressives Congress,
said that the likes of Abubakar Malami, Rotimi Amaechi, Hadi Sirika and Rauf
Aregbesola have left the ruling party a time long ago.
Recall that earlier on Wednesday that leaders of the
coalition met at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, where they formally adopted the
African Democratic Congress, ADC as their platform to challenge the APC in
2027.
Prominent figures in attendance included former Vice
President Atiku Abubakar; Labour Party’s Peter Obi; former governors Nasir
El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi; and other political stakeholders such as Dino
Melaye, Dele Momodu, Solomon Dalung, Senator Gabriel Suswam, Senator Ireti
Kingibe, Emeka Ihedioha, and retired Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar
Onanuga said the coalition, which according to him, are
united only by their hatred for Tinubu, cannot be good for our country, adding
that they are desperados aiming to set the country back by decades.
He said the APC will not mourn the exit of such members like
Rotimi Amaechi, who according to him, left in 2022 after losing the party’s
presidential primary to Tinubu.
The presidential spokesman said that Malami has never been
on the side of Tinubu and has not hidden his estrangement from the ruling party
especially after he lost his governorship bid in Kebbi state.
Onanuga, in the statement, said that Sirika is facing “trial
for contract splitting and other allegations.”
Onanuga said that Aregbesola has since been expelled from
the APC over alleged anti-party activities and lack political relevance.
He said Kashim Imam and former national Chairman of the APC,
John Odigie Oyegun are nothing but disgruntled politicians who have abandoned
the party.
“My advice to Nigerians: Keep your eyes wide open. A
political party with no clear agenda or ideology—whose members are united only
by their hatred for President Tinubu—cannot be good for our country. It will
only set us back by decades,” he said.
He warned Nigerians not to fall for the politicians, who,
according to him, are just desperate and hungry to clinch power from the APC
and Tinubu just for themselves and do not care about Nigerians.
“They want power at all costs because they cannot endure
another four years in the political wilderness or be banished to political
winter and irrelevance,” he said.
“What is certain is that the group will soon unravel due to
their irreconcilable personal ambitions.”
