Reps Call for Investigation into D3aths of 13 Travellers in Plateau


The House of Representatives has condemned the brutal k!lling of 13 unarmed travellers in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. 


The victims, who were from Kaduna State, were en route to a wedding ceremony when they were attacked and murdered by unknown assailants.


The travellers, who lost their way, were attacked, and their bus, reportedly belonging to Ahmadu Bello University, was set ablaze. The House of Representatives, on Tuesday has called for an urgent investigation into the incident.


The House has urged the Inspector General of Police, Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), and Chief of Army Staff, to investigate the incident and apprehend the perpetrators. 


The lawmakers have also called on the Federal Government to enhance inter-state security coordination to prevent similar incidents from recurring.


The House further mandated the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to the bereaved families and survivors receiving treatment.


Hon. Sadiq Ango Abdullahi, who sponsored the motion, expressed concerns about the rising inter-state violence and insecurity in the country, which threatens unity, peace, and freedom of movement. 


He emphasized the need for the government to protect its citizens and uphold the constitution, which states that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.
