A High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the murder of Salome Adaidu, a National Youth Service Corps member.
Justice Simon Aboki found Ajayi guilty of k!lling and dismembering Adaidu. Ajayi, a gospel singer and social media content creator, was arrested on January 12, 2025, with a sack containing Adaidu's severed head near a church in Orozo. He later led police to the remaining parts of her body, which had been chopped into small bits.
Ajayi was charged with culpable homicide and put on trial. During court proceedings, he attempted to stage a religious act, praying in his seat.
On Thursday, June 26, Justice Simon Aboki ruled that the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt and that the evidence established Ajayi’s responsibility for the gruesome crime.
Ajayi was then sentenced to de@th by hanging.
The court's decision brings closure to the case, but raises concerns about the safety and security of citizens.
