Ola Olukoyede, chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC), has called on youths in the south-east to support the
agency’s efforts to stamp out corruption in the region.
Olukoyede spoke on Thursday while addressing participants at
the 2025 police community relations committee (PCRC) conference held in Enugu.
He said the EFCC is committed to cleaning up the region and
repositioning young people to pursue their dreams.
The anti-graft agency boss said Nigeria’s future rests on
the shoulders of its young population, emphasising the importance of integrity
and knowledge among the youths.
“We are resilient and always insist that the right thing is
done against all odds,” he said.
“Please, cooperate with us. We are not your enemies; we are
your friends. We are here to protect you and to serve you.
“The EFCC is here to enable the youths and help them realign
with their future endeavours because, without them, our tomorrow is not
assured.
“We need the youths to hand over, but they must have
integrity, be knowledgeable, and be willing to impact the community.”
Olukoyede said the commission remains committed to changing
the narrative of the south-east in the fight against graft.
He asked young people to assist the EFCC by sharing
intelligence that could help tackle economic and financial crimes.
The EFCC chairman said the commission’s role goes beyond
enforcement, urging youths to uphold dignity, embrace service, and report
financial crimes via the agency’s Eagle Eye App.
In January, the anti-graft agency arrested 37 individuals
suspected of internet fraud in Anambra state.
The agency said the suspects, all male, were tracked and
arrested based on credible intelligence linking them to cybercrime operations.
Recovered items from the operation included six luxury
vehicles, several laptops, and mobile phones.
